Religious Land Use

August 17, 2016

Steven Rother will be one of two presenters on December 2 when the New Jersey League of Municipalities and the New Jersey Association of Planning and Zoning Administrators present a webinar, "The Religious Land Use and Institutional Persons Act and Land Use Decisions in NJ." The Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA) was passed by Congress and became federal law in 2000. One of the intents of the Act was to prevent zoning laws from substantially interfering with the rights of religious assemblies and institutions to use their property in the fulfillment of their missions. Rother and his co-presenter, Peter Steck, will explore the relationship between RLUIPA and MLUL, and the relevant federal and New Jersey case law.
